On July 22, Masato Watanabe and Elizabeth Silva, evaluators of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, conducted field assessment inspections of Jingpo Lake Global Geopark. They visited multiple sites in sequence, including Jingpo Villa, Jingpo Lake water area, Crater Underground Forest and the Bohai State Historic Site.

The two experts inspected the utilization of reclaimed wastewater in the core scenic zone. They toured the Jingpo Lake cruise ticket center to learn about ticketing and boarding procedures as well as public convenience services. They viewed the geopark photography exhibition at the dock to get an overview of popular science outreach work of the geopark. At the Crater Underground Forest, the experts learned about the formation of craters and the underground forest ecosystem, alongside the geopark’s science communication and scientific cooperation initiatives.

At the Upper Capital Site of Bohai, they studied the brief history of the Bohai State and how volcanic geology underpinned the development of the ancient civilization. They were briefed on modern ecological protection, resource conservation and vegetation restoration projects. Overlooking the contiguous farmland growing stone-plate rice on lava platforms, the experts learned about the agricultural advantages brought by volcanic soil.

Upon the conclusion of the field assessment, the reassessment experts will compile information from all aspects and formally feed back the evaluation results.
