Jingpohu UNESCO Global Geopark Popular Science Lectures Enter Campus

On April 18th, the Jingpohu Lake UNESCO Global Geopark Management Committee, in collaboration with China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), organized a popular science lecture at Mudanjiang No. 11 Middle School. Themed "Cherish Natural Resources, Protect Our Beautiful Homeland," the event provided nearly 200 junior high school students with a unique and engaging lesson in geological knowledge, allowing them to deeply appreciate the magnificent and extraordinary "past and present" of Jingpohu.

At 4:10 PM on the 18th, nearly 200 second-year students from Mudanjiang No. 11 Middle School waited quietly and eagerly for the lecture to begin. Dr. Cao Zhenzhu, a geological expert from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), presented several key topics to the students, including what a geopark is, examples of typical geoparks around the world, an overview of the Jingpohu Lake UNESCO Global Geopark, and the connection between volcanoes and daily life.

Meanwhile, on the playground of Mudanjiang No. 11 Middle School, 800 first-year students participated in a donation ceremony where the Jingpohu Lake UNESCO Global Geopark Management Committee gifted sports and recreational equipment such as Go boards, chess sets, and soccer balls to the school's clubs. After the lecture, the school held a themed essay competition titled "Jingpohu Lake at the Tip of the Pen" for the nearly 200 participating students. Combining their understanding of the geopark, the students depicted the spirit of contemporary middle schoolers who love the Earth, their homeland, and learning.

This popular science lecture was held in anticipation of the upcoming third re-evaluation of the Jingpohu Lake UNESCO Global Geopark by UNESCO. Its goal is to promote and popularize geological science knowledge among the public, helping people understand the relationship between themselves and the environment, ensuring sustainable socio-economic and cultural development, and guiding individuals to learn how to protect geological heritage.
