In 2004, with the support of UNESCO, the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) was established. The Ministry of Land and Resources began organizing national geoparks to participate in applications and evaluations in 2004. On September 18, 2006, Jingpohu Lake National Geopark passed the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network evaluation in Belfast, UK, and was selected as part of the third batch of global geoparks, along with six other Chinese geoparks such as Mount Tai and Wangwu Mountain. To date, the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network has 140 members (35 from China), distributed across 38 countries and regions worldwide. Jingpohu's inclusion in the Global Geoparks Network represents a world-class brand, certifying at the UNESCO level that the resource quality of Jingpohu Lake is of global standard. This world-class "name card" belongs not only to the province but also to Mudanjiang.
