On May 13, 2019, the unveiling ceremony of the Huanggang Dabieshan UNESCO Global Geopark was successfully held at the Main Monument Square of the Huanggang Dabieshan UNESCO Global Geopark.

UNESCO China Office Natural Sciences Program Assistant Qian Junfei, National Forestry and Grassland Administration Nature Reserve Management Department Inspector Liu Yuan and Director Yuan Xiaohong, China Geological Survey Party Leadership Group Member and Chief Engineer Yan Guangsheng, Ministry of Natural Resources Survey and Monitoring Department Deputy Director Feng Wenli, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences Vice President and National Geopark Network Center Executive Director He Qingcheng, Hubei Forestry Bureau Deputy Director Cai Jingfeng, and others jointly unveiled the plaque for the opening of Huanggang Dabieshan UNESCO Global Geopark. Huanggang Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Mayor Qiu Lixin presided over the ceremony.

At the unveiling ceremony, Liu Xuerong affectionately recounted the journey of establishing the Huanggang Dabie Mountain UNESCO Global Geopark. He stated that the Dabie Mountains, standing tall for hundreds of millions of years, now embark on a new historical chapter as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Huanggang will cherish this hard-earned achievement and, from this new starting point in the new era, thoroughly implement Xi Jinping's ecological civilization philosophy, prioritizing ecological conservation and green development. The city aims to develop the Huanggang Dabie Mountain UNESCO Global Geopark into a key base for protecting geological environments and heritage, an important platform for geological research and public education, a vital engine for accelerating high-quality economic growth, and a significant window for promoting mutual learning among world civilizations. Together, we will advance the development of UNESCO Global Geoparks worldwide.
