Yaoshi Ancient Temple (Winter)

Located on Longquan Mountain in the dock area of Jingpohu Lake Villa, the Yaoshi Ancient Temple stands against the mountain and faces the water, oriented east to west, featuring a courtyard-style architectural complex. Constructed in June 1995, it comprises the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Bell and Drum Towers, the Hall of Guanyin, the Hall of Ksitigarbha, the Hall of Sangharama, and the Hall of Medicine Buddha.

The Yaoshi Ancient Temple serves as the sacred site of the Seven Medicine Buddhas of Lapis Lazuli Light, with origins tracing back over 1,300 years to the Tang Esoteric Buddhism of the ancient Bohai Kingdom. Artifacts and textual records unearthed from the ruins of "Shangjing Longquanfu" in Bohai Town confirm that there were eleven temples in the capital during the ancient Bohai period. Notably, existing relics such as the Giant Stone Buddha, Stone Lantern Pillar, and Eight-Treasure Lapis Lazuli Well serve as historical evidence of the esoteric practices of the Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light. The discovery of Buddhist relics in Bohai Town in 1975 and 1997 further verified that this was indeed the sacred site of the Medicine Buddha a millennium ago. The Yaoshi Ancient Temple is a spiritually rich cultural sanctuary, housing thirty-one Buddha and Bodhisattva statues across its seven halls. The temple’s architecture is grand and majestic, with uniquely styled bell and drum towers that house significant Buddhist instruments—the Auspicious Bell and the Underworld Drum. The Medicine Buddha, revered as the Buddha of Healing and Longevity, is believed to protect all beings by "dispelling calamities, eliminating suffering, bestowing happiness, health, peace, and fulfilling their wishes."
