In 1982, it was among the first batch of national key scenic spots approved by the State Council.

In 1991, it was designated as a National Forest Park by the Ministry of Forestry.

In 2003, it was officially approved as the Jingpohu Lake National Forest Park by the Ministry of Forestry.

In 2005, it was approved by the state as a National Geological Park.

In 2012, Xiaobeihu National Nature Reserve was officially approved by the National Ministry of Environmental Protection.

In 2023, it was designated as the National Natural Resource Science Popularization Base of Jingpo UNESCO Global Geopark.
