Deer Park Island

Deer Garden Island, located opposite the southern shore of jingpo Lake Resort, consists of an island and a peninsula. With an elevation of 417 meters, the two landmasses are connected by the Changhong Bridge. When the lake water recedes, they become accessible by land. During the flood season, the islands stand independently, allowing boats to pass beneath the bridge. As early as the 1950s and 1960s, the island was sparsely populated and teeming with wild deer, earning it the name "Deer Enclosure." Since 1982, it has been developed into a recreational area where visitors often swim, fish, cool off, and stroll. Over time, "Deer Enclosure Island" was renamed "Deer Garden Island" (Luyuan Dao) based on its homophonic sound. Deer Garden Island is also nicknamed "Twin Crocodiles Playing in Water." In 2000, the renowned calligrapher Li Shuqi and painter Chen Yanlong composed a poem for this nickname: *"Amidst endless green, dots of red glow; jade encircles emerald in lush splendor. As cooking smoke rises with the passing wind, twin crocodiles silently guard a noble visage."* Since then, the name has become widely accepted, frequently mentioned in literature and art, further enhancing its fame. The nickname "Twin Crocodiles Playing in Water" derives from the islands' shapes, resembling two giant crocodiles—one large, one small, or perhaps a male and a female—resting on the water, hence the name.
