Yandang Mountain Global Geopark

The Yandang Mountain Global Geopark is primarily located in Yueqing City, Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, with parts extending into Yongjia County and Wenling City. It is situated 300 kilometers from Hangzhou and 70 kilometers from Wenzhou, covering a total area of 298.8 square kilometers across three zones. The main zone includes scenic areas such as Lingfeng, Sanzhe Waterfall, Lingyan, Dalongqiu, Yanhu West Shiliang Cave, Xianshengmen, Xianqiao-Longhu, and Yangjiao Cave. The eastern zone comprises Fangshan and Changyu Cave Heaven, while the western zone features the Nanxi River.

Yandang Mountain is a quintessential example of Cretaceous volcanoes within the giant volcanic (rock) belt along the edge of the Asian continent, serving as a natural museum for studying rhyolitic volcanic rocks. It documents the evolutionary history of a resurgent caldera from 128 to 108 million years ago. Located in an area of intense ancient volcanic activity, the mountain exhibits unique geological formations like peaks, pillars, cliffs, caves, and walls, earning it the title of a "sculptural landform museum." Modern geological research reveals that Yandang Mountain records the complete geological evolution process of volcanic eruptions, collapse, and resurgence, making it a classic example of a Cretaceous rhyolitic ancient volcano-caldera. It stands as a permanent reference for studying Mesozoic calderas.
